A note from coach Scot Angus:
—
Hello Everyone,
I hope the arrival of the spring weather finds you well and that you are looking forward to getting out and playing ball!
We have had a great amount of interest in our tryout this weekend, however many people are unable to attend due to family gatherings for Mothers Day on Sunday and many guys are also playing and traveling with their summer teams this weekend.
At this point the coaching staff has decided to cancel the tryout for this weekend in order to help ensure a competitive turnout and to respect the time you have to celebrate your Moms with your families.
Please keep in mind that tryouts will begin in mid-August. Dates will be announced in mid-July. It is important that you make yourselves available for August tryouts as the season begins the Labour Day Weekend with a tournament in St. Catharines—so the roster will be filled and sent into the league office before your first classes.
We may have a couple of player information sessions in early August to help you with your planning. Please be sure when you are signing up for courses that you do not select evening sections for the fall semester as we do have weekday evening games and practices.
At this point all prospective players are welcome to the first open tryout after which players will be invited back to tryouts based on the skills demonstrated at the first tryout. Best wishes for a safe summer, please feel free to email me with questions at any time. See you in August!
Sincerely,
Scot Angus
Head Coach, York University Baseball
Congratulations to the winners of the first ever York Invitational, the Bill Crothers Colts, who beat their worthy opponents, the Alexander Mackenzie Mustangs, 8–3 in the championship game late yesterday afternoon.
A further congratulations to the third place, Pine Ridge Pumas, who beat the J. Clarke Richardson Storm by a score of 6–5 in a very tight and entertaining consolation matchup.
The Baseball Club would like to thank all of the schools—their coaches and players—as well as the tournament organizers and volunteers for making both days so successful, despite some less-than-ideal conditions. We hope to see you all next year!
Statistics and recaps to follow presently. We were originally planning on having statistics on the website, but there was an unmanageable complication with the scorekeeping application for Division East team games and we decided that we did not want to have partial statistics skewing the results on-line. The Baseball Club apologizes for this error and any disappointment this may cause, and will take steps to avoid the problem next year.
If your team played in either Division West or the playoff round, the player stats from those games can be found below.

[Morning update: The Weather Network is now calling for a beautiful, 17˚C day, with sunny breaks. Games are most definitely a go! We'll you all there!]
Note: This will be just a short update, with game recaps and statistics to come shortly after the conclusion of the tournament.
Despite bouts of heavy rain and a bit of lightning today, all games for Day 1—save for one—are on the books. Overall, a very good day for baseball!
Thank-you all coaches, players, and volunteers for your efforts today. As for tomorrow, the latest weather reports call for storms tonight, but for the rain to stop by 6:00am in the morning, and for little-to-no rainfall tomorrow morning and afternoon. The tarps are down, so with just a little more luck we should be able to complete all of the requisite games by end of day.
Please continue to check back at the website for updates and cancellations. We plan to be at the diamonds by 6:30 in the morning to gauge their conditions, and update all of: the website (this post), the club Facebook page as well as Twitter account by 7:15, as necessary. No updates are a good thing!

The schools represented in this year’s invitational are:
West Division:
East Division:
The format for the tournament will include a round robin, in which every team will play against the three others in their division, followed by championship and consolation games late on the second day. The teams that place first in their respective divisions will play each other in the championship game, and the second place teams will vie for third place in the consolation game.
When teams are in between games, the Baseball Club plans to run a few drills in order to keep players loose and prepared. We may also have a BBQ going—selling hotdogs and hamburgers—with all funds going toward our upcoming fall season.
So, with a little luck (weather-wise), this tournament should make for some very fun and competitive baseball. Best of luck to all participating!

In just under three weeks, the Baseball Club will be hosting our spring tryout before picking things back up in mid-August summer.
We highly recommend that all players interested in playing for the team during the 2012 fall season—both new and returning—come out to Lambert Wilson Park on the morning of Sunday May 13th from 9am–1pm in order to show us your stuff. Those players in attendance will have demonstrated a commitment to working out with the team come training camp, which will go a long way toward securing coaches’ attention and consideration.
For those players who have not already done so, please ensure that you fill out the New Player Application form on the website and be sure to also bring your signed Supplementary Player Application on the day of the tryout
Also note that, as this is a spring tryout, players are not required to bring performance bonds.
In summary:
What: 2012 Spring Tryouts
Where: Lambert Wilson Park in Aurora
When: Sunday, May 13, 2012
TODO: Complete both player application forms, and remember to bring the supplementary form to tryouts.
The Baseball Club will be hosting our second recruitment tabling of the year in Vari Link (between Vari Hall and Central Square) on Keele Campus next Thursday, from 10:00am–2:00pm. Just like the last time, we are looking for new players for next year’s fall 2012 season to fill the holes left by students who are graduating and, sadly, leaving the team.
If you play competitive baseball and have a minimum course load of 9 credits per term (i.e., you are a “full-time” student), then you are eligible to play and we’d love to have you out for our spring and fall tryouts! And, of course, if you would like to be a part of the club in a different capacity, we are always happy to welcome new members—we need more fans!
If playing is indeed your interest, please fill out our New Player Application form so that we can learn a little about your history and add you to the club mailing list.
And please do join us next week at the tabling if you would like to meet some of our current players. We hope to see you there!

It’s that time of year again… The Baseball Club will be in Central Square on Keele Campus next Tuesday—hosting the first of several tablings this term—from 10:00am–2:00pm.
In particular, we are looking to restock the team with new blood, as there is a continual revolving door of students every year leaving the team. If you play competitive baseball and have a minimum course load of 9 credits per term (i.e., you are a “full-time” student), then we’d love to have you out for our spring and fall tryouts. Also, if you would like to be a part of the club in a different capacity, we would enjoy discussing that with you as well!
If playing is indeed your interest, please fill out our New Player Application form so that we can learn a little about your history and add you to the club mailing list.
And please do join us next week at the tabling if you would like to meet some of our current players. We hope to see you there!

York University Lions fell 12-4 to St. Clair College Saints in a one-game playoff for 4th place in the division at Kinsmen Stadium on Friday.
Karanjeet Singh led York University Lions’ offensive threat, as he got on base two times in the game, including a single in the fifth inning.
Pitching for the third time in six days, Phil Schieda struck out seven, paving the way for a York University Lions win. But luck was not on his side for the night, as the Saints’ bats squeaked numerous singles through the infield, with only two balls hit hard enough to reach the outfield. The Lions’ pitcher allowed two earned runs on 11 hits and six walks over six innings.
Brandon Tamburro got the win in relief for St. Clair College Saints. He pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed one run.
The game marked the final game of Lions’ 2011 fall season, who finished with an identical 4-12 record to their 2010 season—impressive given their very short bench, as they carried only 15 players for the season (including only two seasoned pitchers).
The team will look to improve on these results for next season, and hope to pick up a number of new players for next year.
The only player likely to graduate this year is pitcher Matt Fergenbaum, so the team will most certainly be looking for arms in the off-season.

Apologies, this post is a little late to the site, as the website staff has been very busy catching up with school work. The final game of the season will be added shortly.
The Lions needed to win their final two games of the season in order to force a one-game playoff with the St. Clair College Saints and see who would face the Durham Lords in the semi-final round of the division playoffs.
The following is what Narrative Science’s autobot had to say about the outcomes:

Despite its efforts, University of Windsor Lancers couldn’t finish the comeback.
Anthony Quintana racked up two RBIs on three hits for York University Lions. Quintana singled in the first, second, and seventh innings.

Jeff Parker was a workhorse on the mound for University of Windsor Lancers. Parker allowed no earned runs, four hits and two walks while striking out one.
